About this work

Description

An extensive French materia medica, describing the properties of a large number of therapeutic natural drugs, most botanically derived (and many exotic) but also including chemical or pharmaceutical drugs.

The text is divided into three parts: the first outlining the drugs and their properties, the second and third dividing them into classes (anodins, repercussifs, astringents etc). Several pages describe a range of narcotics.

Though anonymous, the second part concludes ‘fait à Montpellier au mois de Maii 1746’. This suggests an association with the Montpelier medical schools and probably that this is a manuscript account or copy of lectures given there.
