Description
Small collection of medical documents collected by the West Midlands surgeon Dr B. Gough (1909-1999). The collection, all British material except for one item, chiefly comprises autograph correspondence but also includes some items relating to the Army Medical Department and some other institutional material.

Acquisition note
Presented by Dr. Gough's daughter to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and transferred to the library at Wellcome Collection December 2000 (acc.882).
Biographical note
[Wilfred] Brian Gough was born in 1909; in 1932 he obtained his MB and ChB at Birmingham and also passed MRCS and LRCP. He spent his career in Birmingham, being Anaesthetist to the Solihull Hospital and the Birmingham and Midlands Hospital for Women. He was a Fellow of the BMA and of the Royal Society of Medicine, and President of the Birmingham Medical Institute. He died in 1999.
