Milk Supplyc At the end of the year 7 farms and other premises used as dairies were registered and 20 retail purveyors were also registered. Milk (Special Designations; Order, 1936° One licence to sell Pasteurised- millc and one licence to sell Tuberculin Tested milk were granted. The licences wore supplementary licences for the retail sale of milk in the district. Meat and Other Pooasm No slaughterhouse exists in the District. Periodical inspection is made of butchers shops and the meat therein examined. Pish, Fish shops wore inspected periodically. Food and Drugs (Adulteration)Act, 1928, etc. Three samples c’mUlcvero taken by the- County Council as the Food and Drugs Authority. One sample was found to he slightly low in butter fat content, the other two samples wore found -to 'be up to standard,. The lev/ number of samples taken is accounted .‘‘or by the great reduction in the Department's staff owing to 50% of its members joining H, i/I. Forces and the sampling of rationed goods in areas supplying some tc Traders on the Isl.rnd. Milk and Dairies Acts and Orders. Fifteen samples of milk were submitted to the Methylene Blue Reduction Test., Four failed to pass the test. SECTION F — PESV7J.iSNCT; OF, AND CONTROL OVER, INFECTIOUS AND OlliEiR DISEASES. There are no matters of outstanding importance to report in respect of the prevalence of infectious diseases but I should like to point out that during the year not one case of Scarlet Fever or Diphtheria • notified. Particulars of all cases of notifiable disease occurring in the Urban District during 19-4-1 will be found in the table on page 5- Tuberculosis, The following cases were notified:- Civilian: 7 cases of respiratory, 5 riles and 2 females 2 n 11 non-respatory, 1 male and 1 female Non-civilian: 1 cane of respiratory, male. It is regretted that during the year there were four deaths from respiratory tuberculosis, 'j males and 1 female, and one from non- respiratory, male. Immuni sat ion against Diphtherias During the yea:., the Scheme of Immunisation against Diphtheria proceeded satisfactorily, propaganda being intensified when occasion arose* At the end of December, the number of children in the District who had been immunised against diphtheria was slightly higher than the average number for England and Wales. AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS. This Department has assumed the normal responsibilities in respect of tho Emergency Medical Services (Casualty Services). C 10 First Aid Post has been established, equipped and staffed. At the end of the year, Dr. J. Tynan was acting as Medical Officer in Charge and Dr. D„ MacDonald 'was Deputy Medical Officer in Charge of this P0st. A Nurse in Charge has been allocated by the Civil Nuiviug Reserve.
