Why don't the english care about education?.

Sir Claus Moser introduces this programme about the failure of British education to benefit all but a minority of students. Among those taking part in this investigation are Mary Warnock, Sir Ralf Dahrendorf and Andy Green (historian of education). Britain has a history of restricting and undervaluing education, leading to a lack of ambition and perpetuating the phenomenon of under-educated parents with negative attidtudes towards school and teachers. Participants argue that the "A" level system presents obstacles which filter people out of education rather than channelling them towards different kinds of achievement. They call for a system which recognizes and rewards ability at all levels, without undermining academic excellence.
