Contains a note from Francis Galton labelled "Fig. 69, To Artist: imitate these so as to give a good general idea"; and six sheets illustrating the colours and patterns James Key associates with consonants and vowels in isolation, with consonants and vowels as part of words, a sheet showing the representation of letters with shades and patterns in monochrome, and the colour and pattern of Roman and modern numerals.
