Biographical note

The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is the oldest radiological society in the world. The original library collection belonged to the radiological pioneer Sir James McKenzie Davidson (Consulting Surgeon X-ray Department, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and Charing Cross Hospital) who died in 1919; it was presented to the BIR by his widow and was added to up to the early 21st Century. A selection of books from The BIR Library was donated to the Wellcome Library in 2015.
