About this work

Description

Verses in honour of the Emperor Joseph II, the Austrian army and its medical services: with other poems in German. Author's holograph MS. Pasted inside the upper cover is a silhouette portrait of the Emperor Joseph II [1741-1790]: the last leaf is also pasted down on to the lower cover. The author of these verses, some of the which at the end are rather eccentric, makes special mention of several Austrian physicians including Anton von Störck [1731-1803]. (pp. 63 et seq). He may possibly have been a veterinary military (?) physician, and he states on p. 2, in an entry in red ink dated 1784, that he was Master of the Horse at the stables of Baron Podmaniczky, who presented him with a gold medal. A poem on p. 37 is dated 1776, and on p. 124 is a lament on the execution of Louis XVI in 1793. At the bottom of this entry the author writes: 'Das schreibt ein Mann von 86zig Jahren'. Produced in Vienna.
