The present work is a consecutive account of The Club's transactions from its foundation, embodying the information contained in Sir Mountstuart Grant Duff's short history of the society presented to the Roxburghe Club ("The Club, 1794-1905") with much additional matter ; the biographic sketches of deceased members contained in the short history are here reprinted with the necessary additions. cf. The frontispiece is a reproduction of a sketch of Sir Joshua Reynolds, the originator of The Club, by Thomas Sandby, from the Royal collections at Windsor Castle ; the facsimiles include signiatures of Sir Joshua Reynolds, Dr. Samuel Johnson, James Boswell, Edmund Burke, and others.
