    t Deterioration of the Puritan Stock: STARTLING STATISTICS. *ir. While visiting his native town in the county of Franklin, Mass., last season, the writer was present at a dinner given by toe citizens in behalf of the Sanderson Academy, an institu- tion which he attended fora period during his youthful days, ml to which, while attending, he walked daily from his other’s house. Hon. Geo. W, Curtis, who has a fine sum- jer residence in Ashfield, presided at the dinner, and mong the speakers was Henry Winn, Esq , a lawyer from Greenfield, the county town. In his speech Mr. Winn lluded to certain official statistics in regard to the native copulation of tire State of Massachusetts, which, although romewhat in accordance with the results of the writer’s own bservations in Michigan and in New Yo»k, nevertheless urprbed and filled him with fearful forebodings as to the iture of the native American population of European eacent. After the dinner was over the writer requested Mr. Vinn to furnish him the statistics to which he had referred. i*hich he promised to do.
