About this work
Description
An awareness-raising film about a deadly new strain of cholera which first emerged in Bangladesh in 1993. The new strain 'cholera 0139' is far more virulent and hardy than previous strains. People seem to have no natural resistance to it, and it can survive for longer outside of human hosts. These two factors combine to make it extremely dangerous. Improved sanitation is the only way to combat cholera, but Bangladesh is a desperately poor country . Fearing the loss of much-needed foreign markets and investment, the Bangladeshi authorities dare not admit the existence of 0139. Experts believe that 0139 will continue to spread unchecked.
