Biographical note
Project Summary:University College London Hospitals (UCLH) is developing Europe's leading integrated Cancer Centre, an outpatient facility for cancer patients. UCLH wish to engage patients, visitors, staff and the public with the' role of the Centre and the science of cancer and its social, cultural and ethical impact. An artist residency running concurrently with this prestigious development will provide the ideal opportunity to achieve this. The artist in residence, Simeon Nelson, works with ideas from complexity theory, cybernetics and the : philosophy of science, and the biology of the human body. His research focuses on imagining cancer as a complex adaptive system arising within the body. He will work with researchers, patients and staff to, produce a large scale art work which will be a culmination of his research, to be displayed within the new Centre. Talks and symposia will be held exploring the science of cancer as part of the residency.
