Description

Dutton, Joseph Everett and Todd, John Lancelot: Tse-tse fly book. Compilers' holograph MS. Written partly in pencil. Dated from 24 June, 1904 to 29 April 1905. Inside the upper cover Todd has written the date 'Aug./39' 'This is the work book in which was kept records of the feeding of ticks and tsetse flies on experimental animals or on our patients in order to ascertain their powers of transmitting parasites. This book also records observations on the biology of Ornithiodoros monbata. Work done in 1904-05'. On the inside of the lower cover he has also written in reference to the notes on the verso of the last leaf 'This is a glossary of Swahili words compiled by Dutton's questioning of his boys and patients while at work'. This note is also dated 'Aug. 1939.'

Biographical note

Dr. Dutton died on 27th February, 1905 as a result of contracting Tick Fever: Dr. Todd was also infected, but recovered.
