Project Summary:A commission to artist/photographer Karen Hitchlock and writer Rose Flint to make a series of photographic portraits of children born with and undergoing treatment for a cleft lip and/or palate, and their families. The photographic portraits will be accompanied by a short diary narrative form children/families involved.
Purpose of the project is:
a) To bring into the limelight the correlation between the bio-medical side of corrective cleft lip and palate surgery and the experiences of the families receiving the treatment at its various stages
b) To offer children and families a powerful tool for expressing their experiences and developing their self confidence The series will comprise of 16 portraits of children/families and will be exhibited in 3 hospitals and during a number of national and international conferences. An exhibition guide will be produced alongside the works.
