Biographical note

Project Summary:This project will introduce secondary school students to a range of biochemical and genetic engineering techniques as they explore an aspect of a human disease. They will develop a research project studying human Myelin Basic Protein (MBP). The human gene will be transformed into the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Students will examine aspects of phosphorylation of MBP and try to determine if this has any effect on its secondary structure. This may have implications for the stability of MBP and may also have a role in progression of multiple sclerosis.
