About this work

Description

Discussion was broadcast on 4 December 1966 on the University Notebook programme. The discussion was between Pontecorvo and Dr Marion A S Ross from the Department of Natural Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. It was chaired by Angus McIntyre of the BBC. In the discussion Pontecorvo compared English and Scottish Univerity education systems and the disadvantages of the Ancient Scottish University system, where a student is admitted to a faculty rather than a department. Contains correspondence between Pontecorvo and members of programme staff at the BBC, and statistics on the number of students exempted from first year courses at St Andrews, Aberdeen and Edinburgh Universities.
