The compleat geographer: or, The chorography and topography of all the known parts of the earth. To which is premis'd an introduction to geography, and a natural history of the earth and the elements. Containing a true and perfect account of I. The situation, bounds and extent, climate, soil, productions, history, trade, manufactures: the religion, manners and customs of the people; with the revolutions, conquests, and other changes of all the countries on the Earth. II. The several provinces that every kingdom or state is divided into. III. As also the situation, with the distance and bearing from other towns: together with all necessary pieces of natural history. A modern universal table, the most copious and authentick that ever was published, of the present state of the real and imaginary monies of the world: divided into four parts, viz. Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. Which are Sub-Divided into Sixty Parts or Lines, containing the Names of the most Capital Places, the Species whereof are specified, each Sub-Division in one Line, ascending from the Beginning to the End, teaching how the Monies are reckoned by the respective Nations; and Figures standing under the Denomination of each Foreign Piece, is the English intrinsick Value thereof, according to the best Assays made at the Mint of the Tower of London. Explanation. By Real Money, is understood an effective Specie, representing in itself, the Value denominated thereby, as, A Guinea, &c. (other Pieces, as A Pound Sterling, &c. - This Mark is prefixed to the Imaginary Money, which is generally made use of in keeping Accompts, signifying a fictitious Piece which is not in being, or which cannot be represented but by several - This Mark of Alligation and Dependance is the Sign of Equality, signifying is, make, or equal to. - This Mark is set under each Line, to lead the Eye to the intrinsick Value in Sterling of each Foreign Piece standing over it, and all Fractions therein contained are Parts of a Penny. The whole contrived and accurately calculated, by John Paraire, who disowns all such tables, which are not signed by himself as counterfeits, And is willing to clear any Doubt that may arise about the Monies of any Place, and to resolve any Questions either in Exchange or Arbitrations. Consisting of Music, Recitations, Imitations, Emblems, and Caricatures, Original, Moral, Political, and Satirical. Part I. Dramatic Sketches; Or, a Theatrical Brush, for rubbing off the rust of care, And Smoothing the Wrinkled Brow of Melancholy. Exeter-Change. The following is a catalogue of part of the capital collection of birds and beasts now exhibiting at the grand menagerie in the Great Room, as above: A Royal Bengal Striped Tyger and Tygress, being the First ever exhibited at the above Place, much superior to any of the Kind in this Kingdom. - The Tygress was landed from the Duckingfield-Hall Indiaman, on the 14th of September, 1796. A ravenous hunting Tyger, from Bengal. An Asiatic Panther, from ditto. A beautiful Spotted Leopard, from Africa. A ravenous Laughing Hyaena. A wonderful Polar or Sea Lion; an amphibious Animal, which cannot live without being washed with Water every Day. A Jackall, or Lion's Provider. A ravenous Wolf, from Siberia, in Russia. A beautiful Antelope, from Asia. A large Tyger Cat; and a Muscovy or Civet Cat. A large Wild Man of the Woods, that walks upright, and is so extremely sagacious as to understand every Word the Keeper says to him. A Long-Armed Baboon; and a curious Ape, from Ape's-Hill, in Barbary. A stupendous Ostrich, Nine Feet high, from the Coast of Barbary. A Pelican of the Wilderness,-a Bird so remarkable as to be mentioned in Sacred History, that feeds it's Young ones with it's own Blood. A Royal Crown Crane, or Bird of Paradise. Two Condor Minor Vultures very rare and scarce. An Imperial Vulture, the largest ever seen in this Kingdom. A Golden Eagle, from Santa Cruz; and a Horned Owl, from Bohemia. And a Variety of other Animals and Birds, too numerous to insert. Admittance 1s. each Person. In an adjoining Apartment, is A wonderful Maif Elephant, which, although the largest Animal in the Creation, is so sagacious and tractable, as to be obedient to every Command of it's Keeper; and is so exceedingly tame, that Children frequently ride on it's Back with the greatest Safety, as the Den is well constructed for that Purpose. - Admittance 1s. each Person. In an Apartment under the Greatroom, is to be Seen from Obscurity, by A curious Appartus, Variety of Pleasing Perspectives and Public Animation, far excelling any thing of the Kind yet invented. The Unfortunate happy west country couple: or, The entertaining history of Thomas and Sally. Wherein is truly pictured and justly dilplayed [sic], the many severe trials, and unparalelled [sic] hardships these two fond lovers suffered for each other.
