It is an object which concerns the interest of every order, and every individual of civil community; and which combines the highest benevolence, with a just regard to religion, and to the rights and dignity of human nature; for the prevention of crimes implies prevention of the distresses which lead to their commission, of the alarming injuries which attend, and the humiliating punishments which follow them. ...
