We publish a wide range of non-fiction books that aim to challenge how readers think and feel about health by connecting science, medicine, life and art.

Our adventurous and unusual books explore health, medicine and the complexities of the human condition. They are published under the Wellcome Collection imprint, in partnership with leading independent publisher Profile Books.

We are particularly interested in working with UK-based writers from racially minoritised communities, as well as disabled, d/Deaf and neurodivergent writers.

How to propose a book

We accept book proposals directly from writers, but we recommend that you find a literary agent to work with you to secure the right publisher and support your career as a writer. We do not publish academic books, or offer grants for publishing projects.

If you have a project you think could be right for us, aimed at a substantial general audience, please send us a brief description (no more than 500 words) of your proposed book, including:

  • what the is book about (in a nutshell)
  • what is unique and topical about the book
  • why the book would be a good fit for us
  • why you think there would be a significant audience for the book
  • why you are the best person to write the book, and what’s special about you as an author.

Please also include a short sample of your writing. If your project is already well developed, then a short proposal, a chapter summary and a sample chapter would also be helpful.
