A letter sent to Mr. James Shepheard, Whilst Prisoner in Newgate, Persuading him to repent of His Design to murder the King. Shewing, I. By a short Essay upon the Original Nature and Progress of Civil Government, That his Majesty's Title to the Monarchy of Britain, is agreeable to the very End of Government it self; to the Right of the Davidical Line in that Government, which was more immediately established by God Himself; to the Notions of the Primitive Christians in the first Christian Empire of the World; to the Constitution of Old England, and most Christian and other Polite Governments in the Universe. II. From the Instances of Saul and Ishbosheth, and from many other Texts of Scripture, That the Persons of Sovereign Princes are guarded by the express Laws of God, from the Insults of all private Persons whatever, whether their own Subjects or others. III. That the Oath of Allegiance taken to any former King or Queen of England, binds the Conscience of him that took it, to perform the Contents thereof to his present Majesty King George. By Capt.
