Eldon says: "I protest that with the exception of a slight tinge of Grey, it is nothing more than poor C-stle-gh's black draught.", Wellington adds: "Oh these people will take the bread out of our mouths". Stanley who is restraining O'Connell says: "His agitation is quite alarming:- I can scarcely keep him down." The doctor (Earl Grey) says: "These inflamatory symptoms must be abated by a little counter irritation.", the nurse (Althorp) adds: "See there! such a nice bit of sugar!"

The patient (John Bull) wears his trousers round his neck, his jacket around his legs, his shoes on his hands and his gloves on his feet: he has "phrenzy" (mania , delirium). Lord Eldon (left) feels John Bull's pulse. Lord Liverpool (upper left) bleeds him in the arm with a lancet, causing a spout of gold to be issued; the gold is siphoned off by Sir John McMahon, private secretary to the Prince Regent and keeper of the privy purse (bottom left) Castlereagh (above, centre) shovels boluses into his mouth. Napoleon (below) s wedged into an apothecary's mortar about to be crushed by a pestle wielded by Death portrayed as a doctor. Sir F. Burdett, fighting with a judge, holds a surgeon's saw. On the crisis of the Reform Bill which was eventually passed on 7 June 1832. The cabinet resolved to resign unless the King would agree to the creation of additional peers. The King preferred to accept their resignations and called on the Duke of Wellington, who is seen retreating with bowed head and back to the left, to form an administration. Grey saved the day by withdrawing his followers from the house to allow the Reform Bill to pass without recourse to extra peers. Grey holds a copy of the bill in his hand. William IV cries into the end of his Chancellor's wig. Queen Adelaide appears angry since she was opposed to change, a fact that made her unpopular for her interference in politics

Satirical news sheet showing the prime minister, Charles Grey, urging John Bull to blow model ships up the Scheldt river towards Antwerp, portrayed as the right buttock of the Dutch King, Willem IV. Aimed at the general public ("every body can see what a picture means").

Still owned by the family, this collection was largely accumulated by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Earls Grey. Charles was Foreign Secretary (1806-07) and Prime Minister (1830-34). Henry George was Under Secretary for Home Affairs (1830) and the Colonies (1830-34), Secretary at War (1835-39), and Secretary of State for the Colonies (1846-52). Albert Henry George was Administrator of Rhodesia (1896-97) and Governor-General of Canada (1904-11). The Greys were particularly interested in parliamentary reform, colonial affairs and Catholic emancipation.
