Professor Jackson is engaged in genetic research, which he believes may lead to a breakthrough into understanding and treating cancer. Professor Day, is conducting research into the ways in which diet and environmental factors affect cancer.

The Salisbury Health Care Trust, conducts research into the causes of physical and mental abnormalities. A member of the team, Dr Nicholas Dennis, explains how the team is investigating the 'Fragile X' condition. It is a defective gene carried by the female, although it does not affect her.
