Leaflet advertising advertising Hudson's Dry Soap detergent. The front is a colour illustration showing women washing in a stone bath in front of ancient ruins and trees, a lake and mountians behind them and a boat with a large box of the soap in the foreground. Robert Spear Hudson (d.1884) invented the first dry soap powder, "Hudson's Dry Soap" in 1837 in his small pharmacy in West Bromwich, England, moving to Liverpool in the 1880s. He advertised extensively, first locally and then nationally, as his business and use of his products grew. The firm was taken over by Lever Brothers Ltd. (now part of Unilever) in 1908.

Probably part of the packaging for a bar of soap. This is printed in black on off-white greaseproof paper. Text, ornate logo and the 3 small illustrations in circular and oval borders are contained within an overall decorative border.

The Know-How family : the story of the usefulness of soda.

Promotional magazine insert for Sunlight Soap, possibly from the 1920s. The front has a colour illustration of a very large black woman in red headscarf, purple dress and white apron loading the laundry she has just done onto a basket held by a small black boy above his head. They are standing in a green field with a line of clothes drying behind them. The detergent requires "no rubbing, no boiling".
