  • A catalogue of books in several faculties and languages, Consisting of a choice collection in divinity, philosophy, philology, phisick, cosmography, history, mathematicks and chronology. Together with a great number of civil, canon & common law books. As also, of divers volumes of curious pamphlets and sermons, bound and sticht, to be sold by way of auction at dicks coffee-house in Skinner-Row, By John Ware, book-seller. To be sold (by way of sale) at the shop of Alexander Donaldson, Edinburgh, and to continue every day till the end of March 1765. The lowest price, for ready money, is affixed to each article in the catalogue. In this collection are the following books, all the best editions. Folio. Grævii thesaurus, 45 vols Bayle's dictionary, 5 vols The Biographia Britannica, 6 vols Purchas's pilgrims, 5 vols Montfaucon's antiquities, and supplement, 10 vols De Lisles atlas Harris's voyages, 2 vols Churchill's voyages, 6 vols Dictionnaire, de Moreri, 8 tomes Dictionnaire de Bayle, 3 tomes Chambers's dictonary, 2 vols The supplement to ditto, 2 vols Ainsworth's large dictionary, 2 v. Savary's dictionary of trade, 2 vols Miller's gardener's dictionary Chambaud's French dictionary Bryce's geographical dictionary Calasio's Hebrew concordance, 4 v. Moll's large atlas Nicolson's English atlas, 4 vols (See the list continued on the other side.) Such as intend to be purchasers are entreated to send their orders as soon as possible, that none may be disappointed. The books are rated much cheaper than the usual shop-prices. Catalogues to be had gratis at said shop of A. Donaldson, and gentlemen in town and country are desired to send for them.

  • At R. Montagu's book-ware-house, the General-Post-Office, that end of Great Queen-Street, next Drury-Lane, is a choice collection of books, Being the libraries of Sir Thomas More, and the Rev. Mr. Thornburgh's, both lately deceased: consisting of history, divinity, antiquities, mathematicks, law, astrology, atlas's, sculpture, heraldry, lives, poetry, plays, novels, manuscripts, &c. &c. In most languages, chiefly bound in a beautiful manner, gilt, marbled leaves and covers; with all Mr. Thornburgh's manuscript sermons, &c. And a number of scarce pamphlets, and books of antiquity. Which will begin to be sold very cheap, for ready money on Monday the 24th of this instant November. The price being mark'd on the first leaf of each book. N.B. such gentlemen who have books to bind, gild, or letter, may depend on having them done in the best manner; likewise libraries methodized, gilt and letter'd at their own houses, whether in town or country, on very reasonable terms. There likewise may be had the best of ink. Catalogues to be had at the place of sale, and at Kensington of the clerk of the parish, and of Mr. Palmer, Grocer, at Chelsa. Ready-money for any library or parcel of books. Horse or chaise be wanted, it may be hired at a very reasonable rate at the above-mentioned place.

  • A catalogue of curious and valuable books, being the library of Mr. John Spotiswood of that ilk advocate, lately deceas'd. To be sold by way of auction in the High Exchange, on Monday the first day of July 1728. Catalogues are to be had at Alexander Davidson's shop in the Parliament House, at the place of sale, and most book-sellers shops in Edinburgh, for two pence Sterling each, which is to be allowed to those who buy books to the value of 2 shillings. The books may be seen three days befor the austion [sic]. The time of sale from 3 to 7 in the afternoon. The entries will be very low. Earnest is to be given for the books that are bought, and the books to be taken away eight days after auction. The common rules of auction are to be observ'd.
