"Dial" as a surgical anaesthetic for neurological operations : with observations on the nature of its action / by J.F. Fulton, E.G.T. Liddell and D. Mck. Rioch.

A brief demonstration of a case of a prefrontal brain tumour. The growth was caused by tuberculosis. An x-ray of the patient's head is shown. The operation to remove the tumour is shown, and the removed tumour is displayed. The male patient is shown six months after the surgery, healthy and recovered but with slightly impaired movements.

Describes the history of the development of the Holter valve and shows valve implantation surgery. Presents some of the latest brainscanning techniques which make it possible to see which areas of the brain are being used at any one time.

This 4-part series follows a series of live operations during which members of the audience and the public at home are invited to ask the surgeon questions. The second part features brain surgery at Southampton General Hospital's Wessex Neurological Centre. The surgery is to remove a tumour and the patient is awake throughout.
