What brought you to our website today?

These connective tissue membranes are continuous with the tendons that connect the muscle to the bones. The bones in turn have a connective tissue covering - the periosteum - that is also continuous with the tendons. This continuity gives the strong connection between the muscles and the bones. Two capillaries in the glomerulus of the kidney. One contains red blood cells and the other a white blood cell. Between the capillaries is a podocyte. These cells cover the glomerular capillaries with their multiple processes forming the visceral layer of Bowman's capsule.
The horizontal field width of the sample is 10.3 micrometres.

Blood vessels in the retina emerging from the optic disc (black). The optic disc is the area of the retina where the optic nerve and retinal blood vessels leave the back of the eye. No light receptor cells are present in this area making it a blind spot. The endothelial cells are stained red and the vascular contents green. Surrounding cell nuclei are stained blue.

Colour-enhanced image of red blood cells leaking out of a ruptured blood vessel. This is due to a mutation in the <I>ephrin-B2</I> gene that causes the blood vessels to be more fragile than normal leading to an increased rate of haemorrhaging. The fragility is due to the inadequate coverage of the vessel by smooth muscle cells. This kind of leaky blood vessel is frequently found in tumours and in certain other human diseases.
