Elegant and copious history of France. Intended to be completed in one hundred weekly numbers. Making four handsome quarto volumes, superbly embellished; in order to form a necessary counterpart to the various histories of England, and without which, indeed, the latter must be considered as incomplete. The historical designs by that admired Artist Singleton---the heads of the Kings, and other eminent persons of France, from valuable pictures, obtained, with much difficulty, from the cabinets of the Virtuosi, in Engalnd, Italy, and France---to be executed, in the best manner, by Jones, engraver extraordinary to His Royal Highness of Prince of Wales.---The necessary maps, also, will be given.--- Saturday, May 28, 1791, was published, price Sixpence, number I. (to be continued weekly, till completed) of The history of France, from the earliest times, to the present important era. From the French of Velly, Villaret, Garnier, Mezeray, Daniel, and other eminent historians; with notes, critical and explanatory; By John Gifford, Esq. Conditions. I. Every number of this work to consist of three sheets of letter-press, elegantly printed in quarto, on a new type cast on purpose. II. Every other number to be ornamented either with an historical print, or a head of some distinguished personage; the likeness from the cabinets of the virtuosi; the designs wholly by Singleton; and the engravings by Jones. III. The work to be printed on a superfine demy paper. IV. The history to consist of one hundred numbers; or, should the progress of the late revolution be marked by new and interesting events, before the period of the conclusion of this work, to be then extended at the option of the author, so as to include every circumstance that may be essential to form a complete history of France. V. That a number be published regularly every week, without any interruption whatever.
