The Matter has been Collected from many Curious Manuscripts, and the most rare Printed Tracts. It Contains A very exact Account of the Debates in Parliament, and short Extracts of the most Remarkable Political Pieces within this Compass of Time. The whole is in Prosecution of the Author's First Scheme to set the Dark and Pernicious Designs of the Enemies to our present Happy Constitution, in a Fair and Full Light. To which is prefix'd, a large vindication of the author against the groundless charge of partiality. Wherein little Use has been made of Fuller, Heylin, Burnet, Collier, or any other Ecclesiastical Writers, the Author's principal Design being to shew, as well what it might have been, in the Opinion of the First and Greatest Reformers, as what it was. Also including a history of Mary Queen of Scots, than has hitherto been Publish'd, most of the Memoirs for it being taken from Records and State Papers. N. B. There is no where a more circumstantiated Account of Affairs, Civil, Military and Political in these Reigns, than will here be met with, that this Work might not lose the Advantage of being a due Portion of a Compleat History of England.
