<p>Subjects covered are: general health matters including national degeneracy, the health of Londoners, dangers of cigarette smoking, effects of smoking on the heart, defence of nicotine and tobacco in pipes and cigars, increase in women smokers, spread of diseases by rats and mice and disease and Cantlie's praise of women who scream at the sight of rodents because they 'instinctively' know that they carry disease, hygiene lessons in the Bible and Mosaic laws that forbid drinking of milk with fish or flesh (Cantlie claimed milk and milk puddings hindered the digestion of meat and that Moses was the first hygiene expert), benefits of pure wine and beer, hot food and drink as causes of dyspepsia and teech decay, dangers of wasp and bee stings, poison face powders and bad effects of their absorption into the digestive system, condemnation of trade unions as 'slackers societies' or 'leagues of loiterers' and the cause of laziness, national degeneracy, weakened hearts and tooth decay; fitness including the benefits of dancing, brisk walking, long walks, 'physical jerks' for elderly men, women's fitness, secrets of long life, exercise as a cure for heart trouble; health as pects of clothing including disadvantages of women's high heeled shoes, perils of brimless women's hats in the sunshine, health benefits of kilts for boys, the 'evil' of double braces, benefits of corsets that are made to fit the body; activities of Scottish societies in London.</p>
