The trial of Isaac Prescott, Esq. a captain in the Royal Navy, Late Commander of his Majesty's Ship the Seaford. for wanton, tyrannical, unprovoked, and savage cruelty, towards Jane Prescott, his wife, Daughter of the Reverend Mr. Walter, Chaplain of his Majesty's Dock-Yard, at Portsmouth, who gave with her 2000 l. as a Marriage Portion. Setting forth the whole of the evidence upon that remarkable trial, in the Consistory Court at Doctors Commons. (- It appears, by this Trial, that Captain Prescott is so very ingenious in the art of tormenting, and has contrived so many new and extraordinary modes of punishment for a woman, that he appears fully qualified to preside at a Spanish inquisition. Mrs. Browning, in her bay, was thought an adept in every species of cruelty, but our hero has refined upon her principles; and disdaining to inflict common punishments, has invented a system of his own. His unparalleled transactions are equally numerous and astonishing.) Entered at Stationers Hall.

The generous projector, or a friendly proposal to prevent murder and other enormous abuses, by erecting an hospital for foundlings and bastard-children. With a full answer to all objections yet brought against that laudable undertaking. Also to save many persons from destruction, by clearing the streets of shameless strumpets, suppressing gaming-tables and Sunday debauches: with a plain explosion of, and proposal to amend a growing abuse, viz. the barbarous custom of men's putting their wives into private mad-houses, on frivolous pretences, where they often end their days in the utmost misery: also a proposal to amend several great abuses daily committed by watermen. and necessary hints for redressing divers other publick grievances, which call aloud for amendment. Humbly dedicated to the right honourable Humphry Parsons, Esq; Lord-Mayor of the city of London. And highly worthy the consideration of the Legislature.

A letter to the Right Honourable The earl of Sandwich, on the actual state of the master's mates, midshipmen, inferior officers, and seamen, of his Majesty's navy; their Wives, Children, Executors, and legal Representatives; wherein the Power of the Bishops and Ordinaries, in granting Probates of Wills, and Letters of Administration, is considered: the whole tending to shew that the Statute of the 26 Geo. III. cap. 63, intituled, ̀̀an Act for the further preventing Frauds and Abuses attending the Payment of Wages, Prize-Money, and other Allowances due for the Service of Petty Officers and Seamen, on Board any of his Majesty's Ships,'' is impracticable, and highly injurious. By T. Evans, attorney-at-law.

The necessity of inspecting the bodies of such women as die in chillbed [sic] before delivery, to discover whether the loss of the mother and infant be owing to the negligence or ignorance of the midwife.
