In the foreground, people on foot or on horseback admire the city from a hill. Below them, outside the city walls, are extensive kitchen gardens. The key identifies 36 buildings including the leaning tower Torre Garisenda and its neighbour Torre degli Asinelli (nos. 12 and 11), the basilica of San Petronio (1) and the "Studio publico" (university, 13). "The present view of the fertile plain of Troy, the course of Scamander and the different heights of Mount Ida was taken from the back of the Greek Church of Saint George at Troiaki ... it is conjectured that the most northern part of Troy might have extended to within a mile or two of the village of Cumkoie [Kumkoy] that is the sandy village, which appears in the middle of the plain. ... the place where Troy stood is now corn land, and partly overgrown with low underwood" (Museum Worsleyanum, op. cit. p. 41)
