'L'original avait été commandé par la Ville de Paris. "Il a été fait à l'époque de la convalescence de Louis XIV. Il représente le festin que la Ville donna à ce prince en 1687, à son retour de Notre-Dame. L'artiste a fait très-ingénieusement voir le Banquet Royal dans une glace, prévoyant que s'il l'eût mis sur le premier plan, la proportion de ses figures ne lui auroit point permis de donner toute l'immensité que la scène exigeoit. On y voit le roi à la tête du banquet, accompagné des princes et des princesses de la cour. Derrière lui on reconnoît différentes parties de la Grande Salle de l'Hotel-de-Ville, telle qu'elle est encore aujourd'hui; sur le devant, à gauche : 1° la première personne assise, qui a le bras droit appuyé sur un bureau, est M. Fourcy, Prévôt des Marchands; 2° à côté de lui est M. Herlau, échevin; 3° au milieu à droite et assis, est M. le Noir, échevin; 4° et 5° à côté de lui, MM. Bellier et Marescal, échevins ; 6° à gauche dans le milieu et debout, M. Titon, procureur du Roi; 7° à côté M. Mitantier, greffier. Ces messieurs sont occupés à examiner le plan de la statue pédestre de Louis XIV, qui est actuellement dans la Cour de l'Hotel-de-Ville, et dont on voit le modèle sur le bureau dans le coin à gauche du tableau. Ce tableau... a été donné par la Ville à M. de Caumartin, prévôt des Marchands." Il a depuis disparu.'--Roux, loc. cit.
