Description

This image shows a COS-7 cell, which is a fibroblast-like cell derived from monkey kidney tissue. Here, mitochondria (energy factories) are shown in green and cytoskeletal protein tubulin in red. Comparing the diffraction limited confocal image (on the left of a diagonal) with the super-resolution STED (Stimulated Emission Depletion) microscopy image (on the right), the latter reveals the thin tubulin strands and the details of the outer mitochondria membrane (marked by Tom20 staining).
