Description

A portrait of Prof. Archie Cochrane's pioneering epidemiological survey work with the MRC Pneumoconiosis Research Unit in the mining valleys of South Wales between 1949 and 1968. Includes much archive film footage of Cochrane's earliest mass X-ray surveys carried out in the Rhondda Fach valley in 1949 and 1950 and explains the progressive enlargement of the Unit's remit from its initial focus on dùst diseases' to include bronchitis, ischaemic heart disease, anaemia, rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic conditions.
