    - the above remarks to be understood in a general sense, and as totally independent of surgical reasons or difficulties, with which I have nothing to do; but which must likewise be obviously taken into account, in all cases of. calculus in the bladder. With respect to the operation of so/cents of the stone, which formerly so much occupied the atten- tion of the profession, I know nothing, and hence have avoided the subject altogether. From what little I have seen, I am very much disposed to doubt if they can ever be so administered as to produce the desired effect; and this I Welieven is the general opinion on the subject.
