About this work

Description

Neural tube and developing somites in the chick embryo. Somites (pink) are discreet bundles of tissue that form from mesoderm in an anterior to posterior direction. They go on to give rise to the vertebrae, muscles and dermis. The neural tube (right) will develop into the spinal cord.
