    nature as the evacuations, mixed with the drinks the patient took before death. The pyloric orifice is often contracted. The parietes of the stomach and intestines are tliickened by infiltration and contracted. The extravasated blood and the arborised vessels of the mucous membrane gene- rally occupy the lowest parts and disappear on compression, or on slight friction with the back of a scalpel, leaving the membrane perfectly white. The whole surface of the intestinal canal, parti- cularly of the jegunum, is covered with a scattered kind of granular eruption, psorentery. The mucous membrane has the appearance of having been macerated. The supposed granulations are simply the effect of infiltration, for on dividmg them with the scalpel, they almost disappear allowing a small quantity of serosity to escape. The mesentery and omentum are in their natural state ; the trunks of their veins gorged with black blood. The spleen is often smaller than usual and contains but Httle blood, whilst the liver is full of blood, particularly in the system of the vena porta. The pancreas has nothing to remark.
