The rate for 1949 was the lowest ever experienced in the Colony. A disquieting feature has been the deaths certified as due to infections such as typhoid fever, cerebro-spinal meningitis, diphtheria and pulmonary tuberculosis, and a very marked increase in the deaths due to enteritis and diarrhoea.
