About this work

Description

Episode two. This episode focuses on the six-year-olds’ development of communication and language skills. The psychologists observe how the children learn language-based social currencies, such as conflict, provocation, retaliation and insult. They observe the children replaying events they have seen on the news, and discuss how important it is for guardians to talk with children about events occurring in the wider world, in order to understand the meaning adults attach to these events. The children are observed forming exclusive friendship clubs, and the psychologists discuss how certain characters traits can hold an influence over others. They observe the six-year-olds learning how to compromise and negotiate within newly formed relationships. Finally, they explore how the children cope emotionally with winning and losing.
