    A LETTER to THUS by the Humanity of thefe Men, by their frequent Prac¬ tice and diligent Obfervations, great Improvements were, in Time, made in this moft ufeful Science. The Therapeutick Art be¬ came refpe6led, and the Empyrical Practice was, by the unwearied Pains of the divine Hippocrates, at length brought to a regular Syftem. To His unrivalled Genius we are obliged for a moft accu¬ rate Defcription of Difeafes, their feveral Symptoms, and Methods of Cure: and if, in fome few Inftances, his Succeftors find he was miftaken, the very great Difference of the Climate in which he lived, compared with that of this Ifiand, and the early Age where¬ in he wrote confidered, it is rather to be wondered at that his Errors were not by far more numerous, and his Difcoveries lefs im¬ portant than they are found to be. To him we are indebted for a Plan that has been the Bafis of found Practice throughout all fucceeding Ages, and will, no Doubt, remain unfhaken to the End of Time.
