    COMMENDATION THE author of this book was a much honoured colleague of mine in East London in the days, some time before the war, when the parochial system was seen at its best, and the Church in that part of the metropolis was well staffed, with the consequence that families were visited and social and spiritual contacts were possible. This book seems to me to be a powerful and needed plea that we should face the altered con¬ ditions of to-day. If the Church is to recover the ideal of pastoral family visitation, the clergy must be trained to fulfil what the writer has shown to be a vital function in the social services of to-day.
