Description

Woodcut illustrating the 17th century Chinese medical text Yangyi daquan (Great Compendium of The Medicine of Sores) Gu Shicheng, from an edition published in 1901 (27th year of the Guangxu reign period of the Qing dynasty). It shows the disease location and characteristics of yingliu (goitres), i.e. enlargements of the thyroid region, including local swellings, tumours, etc. Various types are distinguished, e.g. qi ying (Qi goitre), rou ying (flesh goitre), xue ying (blood goitre), jin ying (tendon goitre), shi ying (stone goitre).
