Description
Mellanby film compilation 2 is made up of reel 8 of the original films. With charming intertitles, it contains footage of the administration of treacle as a dietary supplement at Erdington Cottage Homes"Who says we don't like treacle?" as well as general views of the Homes and children's activities. Featured prominently is the brass band which marches to and fro. Children wave enthusiastically to the camera. Then it shows footage of children being given olive oil. "Who says Olive oil?" in the open air as a dietary supplement at Marston Green Cottage Homes as well as views of the Homes and children's activities (football, swings, bread baking)

This compilation is the second of 10 from a collection of films made at the NIMR to show the effect of various experimental diets on dogs. The collection of films is partly of scientific, partly of historical and biographical interest and comprises 18 reels of research film on aspects of nutrition, including research into Vitamin A deficiency and the nutritional value of cod liver oil, together with two reels of 'home movies' made in Sheffield, Cornwall and London at various dates between 1933 and 1953.
