Description

The following is an interim description which may change when detailed cataloguing takes place in future.

Papers of Dr Kenneth Heathfield, neurologist specialising in epilepsy and Huntington's Chorea.

Included in the collection are published works by Heathfield and others, correspondence and drafts, and many photographs including slides for lectures. Patients are identified in the collection and these materials will be subject to closure under the Data Protection Act. Neurological conditions discussed include Huntington's Chorea, epilepsy, Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, amnesia and neuralgia.

Presented to the library at Wellcome Collection by Dr Heathfield's daughter, Ms Angela Heathfield, in November 2008.

Biographical note

Kenneth William Gordon Heathfield trained in medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, qualifying MB, BS, MRCS (Eng.) and LRCP in 1940. In the course of a long career in neurology he was based mostly in East London, serving as consultant neurologist to the Barking, Claybury, King George (Ilford), Whipps Cross and Oldchurch (Romford) Hospitals, as well as practicing in Harley Street. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1968 and MD (London) in 1973. He was also a Fellow of the Hunterian Society and served as its President. Dr. Heathfield died in 2012 at the age of 95.
