Description

Letter ... to Dr. Battie ... concerning a scirrhous tumour of the uterus. Illustrated with an engraved plate, labelled 'Philos. Trans. N° 481, Tab. II': Tabula I is wanting. The outer margin of the plate is damaged. With an attached 4to. sheet addressed to Dr. Battie 'From Dr Templeman.' This is endorsed by Folkes: 'No. 2. Nov. 29. 1746. Pr. Tr. 481. V'. He has also endorsed the text: 'No. 2. Nov. 27. 1746', and the Plate: 'IV a Letter from Peter Templeman M.D. to Battie M.D. fellow of the Royal Coll[ege of Phys[icians], London & F.R.S. concerning a Scirrhous Tumour of the Uterus. Read Nov. 27. 1746'. Produced in London.

Biographical note

The author obtained his M.D. at Leiden in 1737 and was Keeper of the Reading Room at the British Museum in 1758 [see the Dictionary of National Biography]. William Battie [1704-1776] was M.D. at Cambridge in 1737, and F.R.C.P. in 1738, Harveian Orator in 1746, and President of the Royal College of Physicians in 1764 [Cf. ibid.].
