About this work

Description

A painting in Rita Simon's Traditional Massive style, depicting a man fishing from a bridge between two trees. Rita Simon stated that, "There is a sense of recession, but it is a bit jerky... The trees are solid foreground. There is warmth, it is a good positive painting but note that the fisherman has his back to you: there is a bit of reticence. The gouache has got gum in it, perhaps the can was not shaken properly".

The title has been taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.
