Notes

Apparently part of the anti-poison gas propaganda issued by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and from 1924 by its International Committee Against Scientific Warfare, that resulted in a clause in the 1925 Geneva Protocol by which abstention from use of poison gas was agreed by the signatories. See Gertrude Bussey and Margaret Tims, Pioneers for Peace: Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, 1915-1965 (London: WILPF British Section, 1980), pp. 47-48, 65-67
