About this work

Description

On the right, the surgical table receding from front to back, with three surgeons operating and another figure passing an instrument to one of them. The patient is covered up and not visible. Centre, another figure holding a paper on which to record the operation (the artist?). Foreground, a nurse standing against a curved table on which are forceps, gauze, a saw etc. All are wearing surgical gowns and masks. In the background, an oxygen cylinder and (on the wall) a fire hose (with notice "In case of fire, turn on")
