About this work

Description

Illustration showing male Blue cross-beak (Coccothraustes caerulea) feeding on the seeds of the Sweet flowering bay (Magnolia lauri folio, subtus albicante). The head and body of this bird, apart from the tail and part of the wings, are a deep blue. Below the shoulder of the wing are a few red feathers; the lower part of the wing and tail brown with a mixture of green.
