Aspendos (Aspendus) is the ancient city which is located on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast 47 kilometres from the later city of Antalya.The site of the ancient Greek and Roman city was subsequently occupied by the Turkish city of Belkis. The print shows a frontal view of the entrance to the theatre with three local men in front of it. Many windows and doors are seen, both arched and rectangular. A Latin inscription is above the doors. The theatre was built in the period 161-169 A.D. on the south-east slope of the hill on which the ancient city was developed. According to the inscriptions the construction was financed by A. Curtius Crispinus Arruntiatus and A. Curtius Crispinus Auspicatus who executed the will of A. Curtius Crispinus. Another inscription mentions Zeno as the architect. It is one of the few Roman buildings of which the name of the architect is known
