About this work

Description

Black and white photograph of a male patient, aged 49 years, with a very large osteo-sarcoma of the right humerus. The tumour had existed for eight years, but had increased very rapidly during the last year. It was removed by amputation at the shoulder joint, and the patient made a good recovery. The limb, with tumour, weighed 33lbs, after removal. Photograph taken by John Howell Griffiths whilst a student at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School.
